Annual Lawn Maintenance Schedule 

January

Check that the lawn mower is in good order, arrange for a service if not.

 

 

 February

 

Make the first cut of the season when the weather conditions are dry.

 Treat for worms

 Check for diseases caused by cold, damp conditions such as Fusarium

 

March

 

Apply moss killer if necessary

 

 

Spring

 

Increase the frequency of mowing and gradually lower the height of the cut to the normal summer cutting height

 Feed the lawn with an application of spring lawn feed.

 Mid spring is the best time for applying a weed killer or weed and feed

 

 

Early Summer

 

Apply summer weed and feed

If the lawn is off-colour use a quick acting nitrogen feed

Trim lawn edges regularly

 

Mid to Late Summer

 

Mow regularly at the summer height

If clover, pearlwort and/or yarrow appear as problems, use a good selective weedkiller

 

 

 

 

 September

 

Autumn programme begins this month with increasing interval between cutting and increasing height of cut to autumn level

Scarify

Spike any compacted areas

Top Dress

Treat diseases

Tackle any moles

Reseed bare patches

 

 

October

 

Regular mowing ceases

Apply an autumn fertiliser

Carry out lawn repairs

Continue to scarify & aerate if not done in September

 

November

 

Apply autumn fertiliser if not done already

Brush leaves off lawn

 

December

 

Treat for worms

Continue re-turfing until first heavy frosts
