Press Release - February 2010
Trading Standards presents first 'Buy with Confidence' award West Berkshire Council's Trading Standards Service has presented its first 'Buy with Confidence' Award to a Tilehurst based landscaping business. 'Garden Post' run by Richard Lilley is the first local business to go through the stringent vetting process to receive this important award. The process includes checks on trading terms and conditions, business documentation, website information, insurance, insolvency and criminal record checks for those working in and around the homes of customers. References are also taken from existing and previous customers. The scheme is designed to offer consumers reassurance that an approved business is operating within the law. The scheme will be offered to other local companies and those that meet the criteria will be given the opportunity to join. Hilary Cole, West Berkshire Executive Councillor for Public Protection said: "We are pleased to welcome Richard Lilley and his business into the scheme. In the current economic climate the Council is very keen to support businesses in their development, and raising consumer confidence can be a significant help. We hope that many more will take up this opportunity in due course".
